Promoting Purpose

Sunetta Johnson began her journey at Creekside at the age of 21 years old as a Charge Nurse. Before long, she was identified as a standout leader that should be training other nurses when onboarding. “She was so good at listening to the needs of the elder and teaching others to take their cues from the residents too,” recalled James Logan, Executive Director. The initial promotion gave her a chance to contribute greatly to the culture of the care community as an influencer of key care partners. She was even recognized for her compassionate nature when she was named ICARE Champion in 2021, MRC’s highest honor. Later, in 2023, an opportunity would become available for her to deepen her role as a leader at Creekside when she was named Assisted Living Director.

When asked about selecting Johnson for the role, Logan said, “She is a person who does the right thing, without someone watching over her. It’s about integrity. She has an intensity and sense of truth behind her work, she gives no excuses. Plus, I think it just goes back to building relationships, she really values connecting with those she cares for and works alongside,” said Logan. Johnson was quick to point out that she enjoys the work because it has proven to be personally fulfilling as well as opening new doors professionally adding, “It’s fulfilling because you get to be there for people during their time of need. It’s about making an impact on people’s lives.”

Now, the Assisted Living Director’s role has expanded again to include advising and supporting the success of The Gathering Place, a day program sponsored by Creekside and local churches. The program is designed to give a break to caregivers of those living with forgetfulness while providing engaging activities and a healthy meal to participants due to the partnerships developed in the Huntsville area, along with a   robust group of volunteers, The Gathering Place offers this program at no charge. “It’s not only a place for caregivers to get a break, but for the elder to get meaningful connection too,” shared Johnson.

A recent study conducted by McKinsey & Co. stated 70% of workers are looking for a sense of purpose in their careers, making Sunetta’s story one worth sharing. Stories of employees like   Sunetta who have found both purpose and promotion are commonplace across MRC.

“Now more than ever prospective talent is not only looking for stability and work life balance, but they are also looking for deeper connections and purpose driven work. We have taken concrete action on employee fulfillment and it’s a joy to see employees like Sunetta thrive. When top talent is looking for more meaning, more connection and more growth, I am proud to say we are the organization of choice,” shared Kelly Tittel, MRC’s Director of Talent Acquisition.
